Dear Sam ,
It seems only fitting that as I write this, you are fast asleep upstairs in your crib since it is exactly what I did last year too. I hope that you are asleep for just a few more hours.
Yesterday we had family over to celebrate your SECOND birthday! It was such a great time and you were a big boy who loved it when everyone sang "Happy Birthday" to you and you got to blow out your own candles!
Two years ago today, you weren't technically born yet and we had yet to meet. In fact, I was still oblivious to the fact you were a boy! But at this time, something was happening and I knew that I was hours away from becoming a Mom. A title I didn't know was so important until I got to play it for the last two years.
You are the one that made me a Mom and I want to thank you for taking it easy on me. You seem to adjust and learn at lightening speed. You put my worries to ease and your "dust yourself off" attitude makes new situations easy on us both.
Another thing I am still adjusting to? Life with a boy! Last year, you were still very attached to me (literally). Now, you are more independent and your Daddy is enjoying introducing you to "boy" things! He is soaking up time show you trucks, tractors, sleds, RTV's and sports. It's hard for me to step aside and let him be the teacher but you boys have an amazing bond. You light up your Dad in a way I never knew existed.
As I keep saying to your Dad, the year 0-1 was at a normal pace but the year 1-2, has gone by at LIGHTENING speed! I know this has happened with the change in our schedule. Mommy is at work and you go play with your friends everyday. It makes life hectic and speed by. But it has been a great year.
I didn't believe how much you had changed until I was printing off your pictures for your birthday! What a big boy you are now!
Besides your size, you are a huge talker now! In the last month your vocabulary has exploded! I am amazed by how many words you know in both french and English! You do a really great job now at communicating what you want. My favorite though, "Uv you" (aka: Love you)
Lately, you are a very independent player. You seem to be content with sitting playing without having me around. It helps at the end of the day when getting a meal ready but I love to sneak up and listen to your imagination.
You are one smart cookie too! Starting to count, know your colors and you have a nice repertoire of songs you enjoy singing and dancing to.
You are still this amazing eating. You eat and eat and eat and I have no idea where the heck it goes! I know that this is just the beginning and a look into you in the teen years.
I could literally go on and on about you, but eventually you will get bored and stop reading. I know by the time you are old enough to read this, you may be "too cool for school". Regardless, I love you and I am SO proud of you. A big part of me is really sad today. Sad that my little boy is growing up and is no longer "my baby". Sad that this chapter for us is over.
BUT a bigger part of me is SO happy for the last year that we have had and looking forward to the memories, growth and adventures to come! Because that is what every day is with you, an ADVENTURE!
Happy 2nd birthday, Sam!
I love you,
Mommy

ReplyDeleteHappy (belated) birthday Sam! Hope you had a great day :)
ReplyDeleteOh goodness, you caused me to cry... I guess partially because I'm feeling those emotions too :). Tell him to slow down, that'll help mine slow down too. Happy Birthday Sam!
