Samuel–1 Month

IMG_0702

Stats:

At 19 days old: 9 lbs 5 oz

At 35 days old: 11 lbs 5 oz and 23 inches long

Wearing:

This Momma happily puts Sam in some newborn clothing still! We had to put a couple of sleepers away that were too small at the end of the first month. The first one caused me to burst out in tears! Other then the select few newborn items, Sam is wearing 0-3 month items!

IMG_4614

I have to say, I never considered dressing a boy. Most people thought I was having a girl and so my head was wrapped around dresses and pink. I wasn’t sure how dressing a boy would be. But so far, I love it! Even though there isn’t nearly as much boy items in stores then girls, the stuff is SO cute! I love the ties, the cars, sports stuff, hats, plaid, overalls…etc…it all makes my heart melt.

IMG_4603

Sam wore size newborn diapers until 3 weeks. At the end of the month he started wearing size 1. The larger size helps when he has longer stretches of sleep!

Sleep:

The day Sam turned 1 month, he slept through the night! I woke up in panic instead of celebration! I thought there was something wrong! For the most part, so far Sam has been a good sleeper. Up once most nights. During week 3 we had a couple of REALLY bad nights where there was no sleep at all. I was worried this is what life would be like but I think it was just a growth spurt and I soon had my little man back to normal schedule.

During the days, Sam sleeps for 2-3 hours after every feeding. He may have about an hour of awake time after every other feeding!

Eating:

100% supplied by Mommy! We are finally getting to the point where breast feeding is comfortable and just like second nature now! It really is an adjustment to life but I love it so far. I love the break it makes me take to focus 100% on Sam.

Some of the things that I have had to cut out of my diet were carbonated drinks of any kind and chocolate. If I have any of those items Sam will get really gassy and uncomfortable.

Sam took his first bottle of Momma’s milk this month so I could go have a pedicure and manicure in town! Thankfully he took it like a champ and the only problem was that I couldn’t pump enough to keep him full. The plan is to start regular pumping next month so we can store up a supply in the freezer.

Appearance:

Sam has very dark eyes and I think they will be brown like mine. Ryan is in denial and things they will be blue.

Sam was born with dark hair and none of it has fallen out yet! He has continued to grow more peach fuzz this month which appears to be growing in dark. He has always had this thick patch right on the back of his head.

IMG_4732

I am convinced Sam has my nose. From day 1 I have said that I found Sam looks like Ryan! Now that he is filling out a little more there are multiple people that thinks he looks like me. I agree, he has my eyes and nose but there is still a look about it that reminds me of his father.

When Sam smiles for some reason I see my brother.

Likes:

Sam likes his Mommy and Daddy! He likes his Nuk soother and no other brand is expectable!

Sam loves his sleep sheep and sometimes I can hear him “talking” to it in the night.

IMG_4675

It is important that Sam always stays warm! Any cold feelings at all and he will scream his head off!

Loves sleeping on someone’s chest! If he is fussy this is a guaranteed position to make him settle down.

IMG_0635

IMG_4640

Dislikes:

Being cold is number one which includes diaper changes, baths, changing clothes and etc.

Sam dislikes when Mommy eats chocolate which has been really hard with all this Easter chocolate sitting around!

Sam is not a fan of patience. When he needs to eat he needs to eat NOW and there is no waiting even 2 seconds for me to pee before he explodes! Ha ha

Milestones:

Turning one month was the most exciting event! It feels like such an accomplishment to have made it through the first month alive and healthy!

Sam’s first Easter!

IMG_0634

IMG_0655

Easter also marked Sam’s first church service! I can’t wait to watch him grow up in our church family! It is such a special group of people in our lives and to have a church family support and love him is amazing.

IMG_4605

On April 24th Sam had his first trip to the hospital except it wasn’t for him! Mommy and Sam had to drive and be with Daddy at the hospital as he developed and was passing a kidney stone. It was the scariest moment to date in the last month. I just kept reminding myself that Ryan would be fine and I had to keep it together for everyone’s sake. I needed to be the strong Mommy in this situation.

First bath which he HATED on April 15th!

IMG_4580

IMG_4579

On April 25th I finally got to make Sam smile for the firs time! It has been something we have been working on for about a week when he has awake time!

IMG_4619

Sam and Mommy had their first trip to the city BY THEMSELVES on May 2nd!

IMG_4662

Meeting Great Grandma Hamilton on your one month birthday!

IMG_0688

IMG_0687

Mommy:

As I mentioned before, I love being a Mommy! I take great pride in that title! The biggest thing for me this month is just healing from the labour and delivery! I finally felt 100% like myself on week 4! It’s certainly a process though! It really is the biggest workout of your life and your muscle pain reflects that. It is a learning curve those first weeks that it is ok to sit down and rest when all you really want to do is GO!

Hormones are a bitch…but more on that another time!

Breastfeeding finally feels natural and easy at the very end of this month! I’d be lying if I didn’t consider quitting at least 10 times. It is the most difficult yet rewarding challenge so far (besides labour and delivery).

IMG_0639

Speaking of breastfeeding, I have to thank this method of feeding for me dropping all my pregnancy weight gain and then some in 4 weeks. It’s a funny thing because I find myself STARVING some times during the day and would eat everything in sight! Yet, I still see the scale going down! Of course my body is not nearly the same as it was before but I don’t hate it. In due time I’ll think about exercise and my diet again but for now that is not my focus.

Daddy:

Ryan is seriously a natural at being a Daddy and I know it’s something that he has been looking forward to for a long time. Ryan has big dreams for Sam. And I don’t mean about what he wants to be when he grows up. His big dreams are little like teaching his son how to throw a ball, to make him laugh and to see him walk. I keep begging him to enjoy these newborn moments because it makes me sad to think of him getting big! ha ha!

Ryan’s biggest adjustment has been the lack of free time. Typically Ryan would come home and relax on the couch for 30 minutes to rewind after work. That’s not the case anymore!

It took Ryan a little while to get comfortable with changing Sam’s diaper. After a week and  a half of him never doing a diaper change I got really anger and forced him to do one! Ha ha! I assured him that for the next 3 years diaper duty is for both of us!

Ryan’s checks on Sam periodically everyday and he is the first thing he looks for when he gets home from work! It melts my heart to see them together. I think there is a bond a father feels with his son that is indescribable. It’s not that Ryan wouldn’t have been in love with a daughter but there is this manly bond that I don’t think I will ever understand that Ryan feels towards Sam.

The thing that makes me the proudest about Ryan is how supportive he has been towards me throughout the month. When I was in tears (MANY times) he was very supportive. He was constantly helping me with breastfeeding issues and taking Sam when things got tough in the late nights. He is been very involved in the medical appointments with the nurse and doctors always asking questions. He has also been very good with my recovery process making sure I did what the doctors wanted to help myself heal.

IMG_0615

Other:

Sam has wicked aim! Without warning he has rocket launched poop while I was changing his diaper! Once was it landed all over his nursery floor and another time all over me (hair and face included) right before we were leaving the house!

IMG_4674

Boys and their peeing are VERY tricky and most of the laundry that I collect is because Sam has peed all over himself!

I have an easy “burper”. It is no struggle at all to make Sam burp and for that I am thankful!

IMG_0691

Sam is already such a boy! When he is feeding he will stop mid-suck, lift his leg and let out a fart before continuing to eat!

Baby snuggles are officially now on my top 5 most favourite things on this planet!

IMG_4584

Letter:

Dear Sam,

I know you don’t realize it yet and I doubt you ever will but you are by far the greatest thing that has ever happened to me. You may only be a month old but I am so proud of you. I am so proud to introduce you as my son! You are absolutely beautiful and a pure reflection of what is important and good in life.

You may not “do” a lot yet but I have really enjoyed this newborn stage and wish it could last longer! Don’t get me wrong, I want you to thrive and grow but never again will I get to experience this “first time” newborn baby stage in my life again. It has been a learning curve and there were days that were honestly a challenge but I think we have both grown and thrived into our new roles.

There is honestly no way that I can sit here and describe to you the love I feel for you. I marvel at the fact that you were once inside of my belly and I had no idea who you were. But now I am confident that God has picked you for Mommy and Daddy. We were all meant to be together.

Thank you for making me a Mommy. It has been a roller coaster of a month and I am sure just a small stepping stone to the months ahead.

I love you.

Love,

Mommy

Weekend Recap– May Long Weekend!

Happy Monday Tuesday everyone! It was a long weekend up north here in Canada which doesn’t actually mean too much when you own and operate a sod farm! This long weekend is prime time for sod and so we mostly spent the weekend working. But, like with all weekends, we did manage to get a little bit of fun in there too!

Friday was a busy day and Sam had not slept a wink the night before (I hate you 6 week growth spurt). When Ryan came home from work we enjoyed some homemade pizza and then my boys took off for a truck drive to get some parts at a local home improvement store. With that full hour to myself in the quiet home I managed to get a few things done that I haven’t had much of a chance to do by myself in 6 weeks.

Aka:

- Take a shower without hearing a baby cry (I swear, I heard a cry sound though even though I was home alone!)

- Shave my legs

- Do something about the furry caterpillar's above my eyes!

- Apply lotion after said shower

- Blow dry my hair

- Drink a hot tea

It was great but for the last 10 minutes before they arrived home I started going stir crazy and paced around the kitchen. I know it was my crazy post pregnancy hormones but there was a horrific accident in our area last week. So, with all my free time I began to worry about my boys! It was as though if I would be with them they would be safe but because I wasn’t, surely something was going to happen.

Of course, it didn’t. They arrived home safe and sound (and asleep in Sam’s case) and we all headed to bed.

Saturday morning we all had to work! Ry was on the truck delivering sod and Sam joined me and his grandpa at the office to help with some home owners that were stopping by to buy product!

IMG_4686

After work the three of us (love saying that!) hung out, puttered around the house and then Sam and I got ready to join the ladies for a special birthday supper!

IMG_4760

We all were driving to the city for supper to celebrate Sara’s birthday! We had a delicious supper at St.Louis Bar and Grill! We then headed to Josee’s house for birthday cake and a visit! Of course I wanted to take a quick picture of all of us. It’s not the greatest quality but I am glad to have it!

IMG_4765

Sunday morning we loaded up the truck early and headed up to Pembroke for a morning visit with Ryan’s uncle who was up for the weekend camping with his parents. It was nice to sit and have coffee and breakfast with him and his girlfriend (and her daughter) before they headed back home. Ryan and I had a small lawn job to do so the three of us left for awhile. Once we were finished we re-joined Ryan’s parents at their campsite to visit before supper.

We had a great time walking around the camp ground and just relaxing.

IMG_4766

IMG_4768

We had a small scare with Sam where he chocked on some breast milk but after everything calmed down we had a delicious BBQ steak supper with Bev and Eugene! It was a great way to spend Sunday!

GLORIOUS holiday Monday! When we woke up for the morning we all bummed around in bed for an hour before heading downstairs for breakfast! Sam and Ryan were having a nice chat! ha ha! Its funny because when I was pregnant it was mornings like this that I was looking forward to. Quiet/sleepy mornings where we are all in bed waking up together. Now it is a reality!

IMG_4769

Ryan headed to the course for a round of golf and I put Sam down for his FIRST time sleeping in his crib! I spent his nap time close to his room as I cleaned out my closet and re-organized everything. I job that I had hoped to do before baby arrived but had to wait till after!

IMG_4771

That evening we were headed to the city for another special supper. For years Jill had talked about her hatred for steak! I always said that she can’t say she doesn’t like steak until she had The Keg. I was bound and determined to make a steak fan out of her! ha ha!

It was Jill and Sam’s first visit to The Keg!

IMG_4775

We had an amazing meal that included appetizers, salad, main meal and dessert! We got to enjoy the last ounce of nice weather on the restaurants patio as it started to rain as we were finishing our last bites of dessert!

IMG_4778

With full bellies we all headed home and I crashed! After a long weekend and finishing it off with a huge meal I went to bed satisfied with the weekend time spent with friends and family!

How was your weekend?

Samuel–1 Week

Written April 10, 2014

It’s hard to believe that Sam is one week old. When I woke up this morning I mentioned to Ryan that we had kept a baby alive for almost one whole week! That in its self is a task I wasn’t sure we could manage. But truthfully, it has been a wonderful week. I plan on doing a monthly update of our little man but I wanted to start the updates off with mentioning things that happened on the first week! It’s been a week of highs and lows. A week of teaching and learning. This was our “babymoon”.

IMG_0633

Some Stats:

Baby boy you were born weighing in at 8 lbs and 8 oz, 20.5 inches long, 37 cm around the head and 36 cm around the head.

When we were discharged from the hospital on April 5th, you weighed in at 7 lbs 14 oz.

The nurse came to check up on us on April 9th and you were 7 lbs and 15 oz.

Looks:

You don’t have a lot of hair but the bit that you do have is very dark brown. Your complexion is a beautiful soft pink. Your eyes are a very dark grey and we think you’ll have Mommy’s brown eyes. The rest of you Mommy finds looks like Daddy. Everyone agrees you have my nose! You seem to change just the slightest bit every day! It’s amazing to see how much you have changed in just a week!

IMG_4664

Health:

You are in perfect health! From the moment you were born to every check up since, every health care professionals has had nothing but good news for this new Mommy and Daddy! It really is music to our ears. The nurse was a little concerned on April 9th about how little weight you have gained since you were discharged. She is coming back to check again on April 11 and Mommy has been trying to stuff you full!

Nicknames:

Mostly we have been calling you “Sam” but when Mommy sings to you she throws in a “Sammy”. Daddy calls you “Buddy” and Mommy has been calling you “Mutton”, “Munchkin” or “Monkey Butt”.

Clothing/Diapers:

Your small little bum is in Newborn size diapers! We thought we wouldn’t need anymore then what we had bought before you arrived but you still need the smaller size.

For the most part we put you into size 0-3 month clothing but you fit best in newborn size and I am enjoying putting you in the newborn size sleepers while they still fit you! For ease you are mostly in sleepers all day and night! We always have a little hat on you as well and a muslin blanket to swaddle you in!

Eating:

Our local hospital really promotes and pushes for breastfeeding. It was something that I wanted to attempt in the first place but was never putting any pressure on myself. I know that some people love it and some people hate it. I have to say besides a couple rough starts, I am really enjoying it! I am one of the lucky ones who’s milk has easily come in and for that I am very thankful. It’s been kind of nice to be breastfeeding. Towards the end of your first week Mommy was feeling very good and starting doing stuff around the house. The best part is that when you get hungry, Mommy has no choice but to stop and feed you. It’s really nice to take that break and bond with you and not worry about a little task that I thought “needed” to get done that very second! Snuggling against your naked skin after you belly is full is one of Mommy’s favourite things!

IMG_4573

Sleeping:

I think your journey into the world tired you out because the first 2-3 days all you did was sleep! You wouldn’t even want to wake up to eat. Later in the week you sleep for about 2-3 hours and then wake up to feed. We had a one really rough night when we first got home and Mommy and Daddy were up all night with you. Thankfully, it hasn’t happened since.

Likes:

Eating, sleeping and being snuggled! You love to be toasty warm! We have also noticed that love to move! If we just try to hold you while sitting, you fuss. But get moving and it will almost instantly settle you!

Dislikes:

Getting your diaper changed, sitting still, Mommy’s left breast (long story) and being naked!

Mommy:

Mommy had a fairly long labour but honestly she feels great. Recovery is hard because she hates to feel useless. Mommy is suddenly very fearful of something happening to you! She is constantly trying to feel if you are breathing!

Mommy had a little case of the “baby blues” on April 8-9. She actually doesn’t like that name because she wasn’t “blue”, just emotional. She could cry at a drop of a hat whether it was something sad or happy. Sometimes she would cry for no reason at all. Thankfully, it didn’t last long.

Mommy is also amazed by how her body has rebounded since giving birth! The belly is mostly gone and she can easily wear her pre-pregnancy shirts. She hasn’t been brave enough to try on any pants. A week post-pregnancy and Mommy is down to her pre-pregnancy weight.

IMG_4553

Daddy:

Daddy has been an amazing help this week. He was the one who got to reveal to Mommy that you were a boy! He has taken the week off to help with you while Mommy recovers. He has been doing all the laundry, cooking and cleaning!

Daddy has yet to change a dirty diaper but Mommy is working on his hesitation and confidence.

Truthfully, Daddy is getting a little stir crazy being around the house the first week and might be looking forward to getting back to work. Mommy isn’t. She’ll probably cry her eyes out. When Mommy is feeding you in your nursery, Daddy will come into the room just to sit and chat. Mommy will miss the company.

Mommy never thought she could love your Daddy anymore then she already did. But another piece of her heart opened up when she first saw him hold you. She falls more and more in love with him as he evolves into becoming a Daddy.

IMG_4551

Milestones this week and things we want to remember:

- BIRTH DAY!

- Getting to meet so many special people!

IMG_4530

- Coming home! Settling in at home and meeting Tucker for the first time. This also involved your first car ride which was VERY stressful!

IMG_0620

IMG_0621

- It’s a Hamilton family tradition to have a “it’s a” sign out by the highway on our business sign! It was exciting to see the one that someone from the farm had put up for you!

IMG_4532

- First night home. Every one slept so well except Mommy. She kept waking up thinking there would be something wrong with you or that you had stopped breathing.

- Your first all nighter…yippee!

- Getting a little tour of the farm. You went to the shop and office for the first time. You also joined the shop boys for lunch and they surprised you with some beautiful flowers.

IMG_4549

- Mommy’s milk finally came in and we are both so much happier!

- You went to your first visit to Nana and Grandpa’s house on April 10th. It was a relaxing morning and Mommy barely held you at all! ha ha

- First visit from the nurse on April 9th.

Letter

Dearest Sam,

Baby, we did it. We kept you alive for one week. Don’t laugh, Mommy and Daddy are new at this whole “parenthood” gig. I’ve been joking saying that you are the teacher and we are the students but it’s true! You know exactly what you want and Mommy and Daddy are learning more everyday as to how to figure that out.

I hope you don’t think Mommy’s tears have anything to do with you. She is SO happy you are here and truly LOVES being your mother. It has also been amazing to watch your Daddy turn into a parent. I knew he would be good but I couldn’t imagine a better Daddy for you. His whole face lights up when he sees you do something new. We both can sit and watch you for hours!

I have to apologize now for any mistakes we may have made. We are new at this and are trying to figure out works for all 3 of us and not following what “the book” says.

Munchkin, this week has flown by and I am sure that I am missing SO much. It has honestly felt like I have entered a new world. I sometimes sit and laugh at how different my life looked just 7 short days ago.  7 days ago Mommy was getting a pedicure and getting some shopping done. Now, her whole world revolves around you! You are what is on her mind 24/7 and I am sure that will never change!

Daddy and I feel beyond blessed to be given the chance to be the parents to you. You are honestly our greatest accomplishment to date. We thank god everyday to have been given to chance to be your parents. To get to meet you and watch you grow up. Your arrival into our lives has really changed ours for the better and we just want to thank you for making us a family.

We love you so much and promise to do our best to provide for you the life that you deserve. We want to promise to do everything in our power to raise you right and make sure you never doubt for one second our love for you.

Love always,

Mommy and Daddy

Samuel’s Birth Story–Part 3

*This post contains graphic content which includes talk of all things birth related. Please feel free to scroll down to the pictures and skip out on the details if you are squeamish!

You have no idea the relief I felt when I started feeling the urge to push. It was the light at the end of the tunnel. I was getting so tired and I just wanted to get to the end so I could rest. I was in the tub when I started feeling the urge to push and so the nurse and Ryan had to lift and help my naked self to the hospital bed.

When I got settled into the bed the doctors (my doctor and a student doctor that I had approved being there) were there ready to get this show on the road! The doctor checked me to confirm that I was indeed fully dilated and proceeded to break my water. Oddly enough, after reading so many birth stories I was concerned about meconium in the fluid. So, even in my delirious state I asked if it was clear, which it was!

The doctor proudly announced I could start pushing at the next contraction and as that contraction started, I got mad.

After all of my reading up on labour and delivery I had thought that I had learnt everything. What I failed to realize was that even though you feel the urge to push, you still feel the painful contraction. I was under the impression that once I got to this stage of labour that the contraction pain would go away so that I could focus on pushing! It doesn’t. I got so upset and kept asking why I still felt the pain of the contraction. Which everyone assured me was normal. Except I was so mad because I felt like the universe was playing some sort of sick joke on me!

Not to mention the doctor started doing this thing where he would want me to push against his fingers (that were inside me) and would stretch me as I was pushing. I was SO close kicking him in the head and even said to him, “Don’t “f**king do that!”. Ryan said he was worried I was going to hit him.

When I was pregnant I had asked a lot of women what was worse, contractions or pushing. They all said contractions and I assumed I would be the same. I wasn’t. I hated pushing! Contractions were something I could relax and focus on getting through. I wasn’t prepared for how strenuous this pushing gig could be.

At around 8 PM I started pushing. I pushed lying down, I pushed squatting, I used a bar, I used a towel and it literally felt like I was making zero progress. The nurses and doctors were all very encouraging but I felt like I wasn’t doing anything.

At this point I was so focused on the doctor telling me what to do and how close I was that I actually have no memory of Ryan during the whole pushing process except to tell him when to put a cold towel on my forehead and yell at him to take it off when it got annoying.

The pushing process FLEW by. 2 hours felt like 20 minutes.

After every contraction a nurse would check the babies heart rate as well as mine to make sure everything was good. Around the 2 hour mark I could feel the mood of the room shift. I started darting my eyes around from person to person in silence hoping to understand from their expressions what was going on.

An oxygen mask was put on my face and during the next contraction the doctor’s light tone was more urgent as he was telling me to “push”.

After that contraction was done they checked the heart rates again and our main delivery nurse scooted away and started digging through drawers. The doctor gently told me that he had to use the vacuum and he needs to do it now. The nurse handed him the vacuum and even though I wasn’t having a contraction he told me to push anyways because the baby needed to be out now!

*Later I was told that the baby’s heart rate was low (40’s-50’s) and mine was so high that it was comparable to someone completing a marathon. They were worried for us both*

Using the vacuum he pulled (and I pushed) for one minute! I never even got a chance to feel the “ring of fire” because the head come out so fast. The doctor then proceeded to try to deliver the rest of the baby but he announced to the nurses that the shoulders were stuck and they proceeded to push on my stomach!

Again, I was always under the impression that once the head came out that the rest was easy! As I was pushing the rest of the baby out I even yelled, “I thought this was the easy part”!

Within 1-2 minutes, at 10:31 PM the baby was out and lying in between my legs. The baby looked so bluish/white and wasn’t breathing. The doctor and nurses started doing what they could to get him to start breathing while the baby was still in between my legs. At this point, I should have been the concerned parent and asked, “Is the baby ok?” but instead all I kept repeating was, “What is it?”

Of course the medical team was too busy with the baby to answer me and all the sudden I could feel Ryan’s scratchy beard by my ear as he whispered in a tearful voice, “We have a son.” This moment with Ryan will forever be engraved in my mind as one of the best moments of my life.

And that’s when the emotions hit me like a ton of bricks. As I was crying I kept saying, “Oh my god! We have a baby. We have a son!” “It’s a boy! Holy sh*t!” “Everyone was wrong! It wasn’t a girl!”

Finally when the doctor was sure the baby was O.K (it was really only about 5 minutes), they placed him on my chest and Ryan and I finally got to have a look at our little boy! I never felt like this was a baby that I had never laid eyes on before. Instantly I knew he was mine.

IMG_0569

I ended up with mostly 1st degree (and 1 small 2nd degree) tears and as the doctors were stitching me up Ryan and I enjoyed staring at our son and talked over names. We kept calling him “Buddy (like, “it’s ok buddy”) and the doctor thought that was what we had named him. Ha ha!

IMG_0570

IMG_4524

IMG_4527

Finally, the doctors were done repairing me and making sure that I was o.k. The doctor remarked that my placenta weighed 2 times the normal which is great for the baby. Now that everything with me was good, it was time to get a closer look at our little man! He passed all the tests with flying colors and was the picture of health.

 IMG_0575

IMG_0577

Finally, it was time to weigh him! Everyone was placing bets at how big he would be. Our doctor was dead on the money with his guess of 8 pounds and 8 ounces!

IMG_0582

It was almost 3:30 AM when everything was all said and done. Everyone left our room so that we could get some sleep. Our baby was still nameless at this point and we decided to reconvene the discussion in the morning after a few hours of sleep.

Ryan passed out pretty quickly but I was still flying high with adrenaline! As I looked over at my son sleeping beside me in his bassinet I couldn’t get over the fact that he was here (and that he looked so much like his Daddy while he slept!). The months, weeks and hours leading up to this moment were erased. This little dude, who had been kicking me all this time was here and that was all that mattered. I told my son that I loved him very much and that I promised to do my best to raise him to be a good person.

IMG_0573

I can’t thank my doctor and the staff enough for their help in welcoming our son to the world. In the end, I got the natural birth that I wanted but I couldn’t have done it without the support team. I can’t say enough about the maternity ward at our hospital! It is by far one of the best birthing units in the whole Ottawa Valley (in my opinion). We later found out that I was the first all natural birth that this student doctor had ever seen and I think I may have scarred him for a while! Ha ha! But he also mentioned how neat it was to see the process from start to finish and what a woman is capable of.

This support team also means my husband who was a rock star the whole time! This typically short tempered man listened to my every cue and was very patient with me even when I got difficult! Sam and I are very lucky to have a strong Daddy like him!

The End!

Weekend Recap: My First Mother’s Day!

Happy Monday everyone! I hope where ever you are reading from that you are getting some of the beautiful sunshine that we have experienced over the last couple of days. It was a glorious weekend around here which means busy season for the farm but I don’t even care. I just love being outside!

The weekend started out on Friday night by packing up and heading to one of my best friends place for a surprise! Amanda’s husband had contacted a bunch of her friends and invited them over for a surprise birthday night! I always hate keeping something from Amanda so I avoided talking to her for 2 days! ha ha!

Sam and I arrived (Ryan was working late) and settled in! It was nice to just sit around and chat with the girls. They all took turns getting some snuggles in with Sam so I sat back and enjoyed a glass of wine! Adult talk and wine all in one evening? This Momma was in heaven! It was also nice to introduce Sam to some girls who hadn’t gotten a chance to meet him yet!

Amanda’s husband brought out all the stops! Supper, wine and birthday cake!

But as always, the best part was visiting with the girls! One of them I haven’t seen since Amanda’s wedding and it was so nice to catch up!

Ryan and I had to duck out a little earlier then we normally would but Sam needed to get settled at home and in bed. #parentslife

It was a good thing that we did head to bed early with Sam because the next morning Ryan and I had to head into work! Sam joined me and my Dad at the office while Ryan went on the truck to deliver product! May and June are very busy months and I am going to work (with Sam) every other Saturday. It’s mostly local people who come in to buy product and they were excited to come and see the baby as well! Have I mentioned how much I love my small town?

For the rest of Saturday Ryan and I were feeling tired and lazy so that is exactly what we did! Watched two movies, made homemade pizza, played with our boy and went to bed early.

Have I mentioned that for 4 days in a row Sam had SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT and so when I woke up with the sunshine on Sunday I was feeling fantastic! It was my first Mother’s Day and I just felt so blessed as I head Sam starting to stir in the playpen beside me.

Daddy got up and placed Sam in bed with us with my Mommy’s Day gift and card! A gift to go get my flowers for pots on the porch!

The three of us (LOVE saying that, we are a family!) got ready for church and my parents came over early so I could give Mom her Mother’s Day gift! My Auntie Debbie also came over for coffee before church and we all had a good time visiting! Not to mention laughing at the crazy sisters who wore the same outfit to church! Ha ha! They always do funny stuff like this together! It was embarrassing when I was a teenager but now I love their funny antics!

I was surprised at church when the beautiful Maddy greeted me with a little bag of homemade cookies that she and her Mommy, Stacy had made for the Mommies and even the non-mommies! It was so thoughtful and delicious too!

After church we had some breakfast with my parents and then headed to Ryan’s parents for a visit! We got to give Ryan’s Mom her Mother’s Day gift from us and from Sam and then had a nice visit with them! Ryan is still cautious about diaper changes but I know if I ask him to change Sam in front of people that he will do it! You bet that while we were at his parents I asked him to take the turn to change Sam and he did! Ha ha!

The rest of the day we actually got to work on getting all of our pool stuff cleaned and set out! It’s one of our favourite hangout spots in the summer and it is now ready for us to sit out there and enjoy! Sam got his first glance of the pool area!

That night my boys made me a spaghetti supper with all the trimmings and then we all headed to bed after a busy weekend!

I couldn’t have asked for a better weekend but this one was especially wonderful because I got to enjoy my first Mother’s Day! I have a whole new appreciation this year for what being a Mother means! I look at my Mom and all the other Moms that I know with an understanding for all that they do! They are my hero’s!

Today marks 2 years since Ryan and I have been married! It is hard to believe that two years ago I was getting ready for my wedding and today I am sitting beside our son! I wouldn’t change anything over the last two years and I am so blessed to get to spend everyday with someone I would consider my best friend!

I love you very much Ryan!
