I honestly cannot believe that today is April 6th! The winter has flown by! The end of winter means the beginning of a very busy work schedule! Every year that Ry and I have been together we try to take one last winter weekend trip before we get into that busy work season!
This year was no different and as you had read before, I got Ryan plane tickets and a hotel in New York city for his birthday! We were so excited to go and before we knew it, it was time to board the plane!
I had decided when I was booking the flight to book it for Thursday night, after work, so that we had all day Friday to do some touring! This turned out to be a great idea, except they were getting snow in New York so our plane was delayed an extra hour. Once we finally arrived to our hotel, one black away from Times Square, it was off to bed!!
The next morning we were up bright and early! We couldn't wait to start the day! What better way to do so then with the best bagels in New York City, at H&H bagel! We walked (yes, walked) 35 blocks in order to get these bagels!! P.S It was also raining! Was it worth it? HECK YA! Best bagel I have EVER had!
Because of the down pouring of rain we decided to move our tourist selves inside and visit the Museum of Natural History! For those who don't know, this is where the Ben Stiller movie, Night At The Museum was filmed. You might recognize this big dinosaur that is featured in it!
There was a special Butterfly display at the museum when we were there, that I had to check out!
After touring the museum for a couple of hours it was time for lunch at a local dinner and then learn how to use to New York metro!
The metro was our main source of travel. It was cheap and it got you anywhere in the city in record time! Surprisingly enough, it was easy to navigate and we never got lost once!
Once we figured out the metro, we took it to go to the Empire State Building! My dear fiance is afraid of heights! Even going onto a two step stepladder makes him start to tremble. To get him up to the 86th floor was amazing but there was no way he was leaving the safety of the back wall to go onto the observation deck! So, I made him take my picture instead!
It had been a long day walking around and so we ducked back into our room for a little nap! We woke up a little while later and went to one of my favorite places, The Olive Garden. In Canada we don't have any Olive Gardens and whenever I get the chance I head to one if I'm in the states! I think the location of Times Square make it even better!
It had been a great day/evening but I couldn't wait for all the adventures we were having the next day!
Saturday morning we hopped onto the metro and headed to South Ferry to stand in line for an hour to visit this lady, The Statue of Liberty! I had never gotten to do this in my past trips to New York and it was really cool!!
Ryan got to enjoy a New York pretzel on the boat as well.
It was a long morning boat ride and we were starving so we headed to little Italy and went to Lombardi's Pizza. When you google, "best pizza in NYC" it comes up! Plus, it is America's first pizzeria! Pretty cool eh? Not to mention the pizza was AMAZING!
We needed to work off that big pizza lunch so we walked to Brooklyn Bridge for a couple of photo ops! Well, I walked it and Ryan hung on to the side and slowly shimmied his way up and then ran back down! It was a....umm...interesting experience! ha ha!
The World Trade Centre site was the next stop. I had assumed that there would be more to see but they are very much in the middle of construction but the finished product will be amazing to see! I guess I'll just have to go back to check it out..:-)
We headed back to our room to quickly change into a nicer set of clothes because that night we were going to see Wicked!
I was in awe! This musical is amazing! It's funny, entertaining, and an overall amazing show!! If you ever get the chance, go!! See it!!
It was a very busy first two days in NYC but the weekend was only half over at this point! So many things still left to do!!
Happy Wednesday!
xo
Glad to hear you are back safe and sound and had a good time!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that you & Ry had a great time.. Ry gets the height thing from me.. xoxox
ReplyDeleteWicked is awesomely Wicked :). I've seen it in Chicago and Tulsa Oklahoma. I didn't realize they were building something at the site of the World Trade Centers. I went in 2005 and it was just huge holes where they once stood. At that time it still smelled like ashes and that happened in 2001. I'm so jealous you got to go to NYC. My husband and I are going some day b/c I love it and he's never been. Great reason to go I must say. Maybe we can meet there sometime :)...
