Happy Friday everyone! Another week come and gone! All week I’ve been without Ryan because he and my dad and brother went on a golf trip! They are on their way home today and I can’t wait to see him again!
It was really hard to keep our date that I had planned for March a secret. We agreed that for the months of the other persons birthday that it would be a little extra special and would count as their birthday gift. Being that Ryan’s birthday was in March, I got to organize a very special date. I had heard about a couple of events that were coming that were coming to Ottawa in March and booked us tickets right away in anticipation for this date!
This months date was a weekend away to Ottawa (which is only about an hour away). We had tickets to Rock of Ages and weekend tickets to the CIS Men’s basketball championship tournament!
That Friday, we packed and headed to the city with a great weekend ahead of us!
The first stop of the weekend was The Keg steakhouse. Our favorite place to go for a special meal!
We then took the short walk to the National Arts Centre (NAC) to take our awesome seats for the show!
Now, normally I wouldn’t pick a Broadway show as a birthday present for Ryan. It’s just really isn’t his thing. But, this show was different! A whole show of 80’s classic rock! I knew he would love it!
I was right! We both walked back to the car singing some of the featured songs and reminiscing about some of the most hilarious parts!
We got to our hotel in the west end of Ottawa that night and saw many coach buses. I guess a lot of University students were staying in our hotel. I guess University wasn’t that long ago for me and I remembered the excitement of away trips with friends. So, even though they were a little loud, I couldn’t complain. I was like that not too long ago!
The next morning we got ready and then did some shopping around town! We met friends Josh and Rebekka for lunch and then headed over to the arena for the first game. I had kept one more little secret from Ryan. Not only did we have tickets to the all weekend tournament…but we had front row seats! He was very excited!
We watched both of the semi games! I didn’t think that I would like this part of our weekend away! But I really enjoyed it! Watching basketball in person is much more exciting then on T.V!
We enjoyed the first day of games and stayed at the arena and just ate pizza there!
We were excited for the next day! The bronze metal game and the championships!
Sunday was the last day of our trip away! We packed up and headed out for lunch and couple more errands before getting to the arena for the bronze metal game! It was a close game but the Ottawa Gee Gee’s took it in the end!
The Championship game was what everyone was waiting for! The stands filled up fast! Acadia versus Carleton. Quickly, Carleton pulled away with a strong lead and kept it that way throughout the whole game. By the 3rd quarter it was getting late and it was very obvious who was going to win. So, we packed up early and left for home!
It already feels like our weekend away was months ago! We love getting away, even it is just across the river! It’s that time away from home to recuperate that we need once in a while. I was glad I was able to hide every detail of this trip from Ryan! He has this way of being able to guess or figure out his surprises! But, not this one! I loved to see the look on his face as he realized what was going on.
March is notoriously a very busy month for us because of birthdays, work and other events. Typically, we would not do a whole weekend away, let alone date, if it weren’t for our Year of Dates! It’s nice to be “forced” to take that time to get away! Even though it seems like things are too busy at the time, you look back fondly at the memory and are ultimately glad you did it.
Hope you have a great weekend!

Shut the front door... is that your kitchen? I'm totally jealous!!! Mine is pretty, but small. I don't fit in it well! Haha.
ReplyDeleteGlad you guys had an awesome time! Love the date idea!
An intriguing discussion is definitely worth comment.
ReplyDeleteI do think that you should publish more on this issue,
it may not be a taboo matter but typically folks don't talk about these subjects. To the next! Kind regards!!

Can't think of a more appropriate way for Ryan to celebrate his birthday!! Looks like you guys had a blast!!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a lot of fun! Awesome to get a weekend away during a busy time. Front row seats is pretty awesome too!
ReplyDeleteReg would have loved that too. When we lived in Mississauga I took him to a Raptor's game. It was thrilling and unbelievably fast and furious basketball. Reg still plays basketball and coached both the twin's teams. What a great gift you gave lucky Ryan!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea to do monthly dates! My husband and I try to make "adventure" dates happen as often as possible, but we're not nearly as organized as you guys are. I really like the notion of switching back and forth the role of "planner." (Also, The Keg is AWESOME!)
ReplyDeleteI'm new to reading your blog, but I look forward to more Year of Dates updates :)
