A Golfing Kind Of Weekend

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend!

My weekend started out with a highly anticipated event, the company golf tournament. Every year at the end of July all of the great employees from the farm load up a bus for an afternoon/evening of music, great good, prizes and golf!

Friday afternoon, after a quick bus ride we all got ready to head out onto the course!

This was my team! Dustin, Cowan and myself! We had a great time chatting with the teams around us and playing a good round of golf!

mvt golf tournament 6

I am usually not the biggest fan of golf because I am just not that good at it. On Friday, I played the game of my life! Never before have a shot a ball and have it land on the green! I even won a prize for being closest to the pin! It was pretty exciting!

mvt golf tournament 5

Yes my balls name was Joe!

After we were all done our round of golf we headed back to the clubhouse for some cocktails, a steak dinner and music!

The afternoon/night went by in a blink! It was so much fun to have a Friday afternoon off to spend with great people!

Saturday was a busy day around home. It was all about puttering around. Between getting new pictures hung, laundry, organizing (YAY!) and weeding the vegetable garden! The garden is at a fun stage right now because every time you go out there seems to be something new growing!

We have some great Romaine lettuce that is ready for the picking so we made ourselves a fresh chicken Caesar salad! Yum!

Being that I played such a good game of golf on Friday I was feeling pretty professional (ha!). So, I agreed to join Ryan on the golf course in Norway Bay on Sunday.

mvt golf tournament 2

Although it was fun it sure did take the wind out of my sails. Back to being the awful player that I am! Ha! :-)

That afternoon I volunteered at a music festival up the road from the Norway Bay golf course. It was a fun hour of AMAZING music put on by one of our (Ryan and I) friends, Phil. There were so many kids out at the Under The Pines Music Festival to listen to barn themed music! Such an amazing event in our own neck of the woods.

As you can imagine I pretty much got my fill of golf for one season! But it was still a super fun weekend out in the fresh air!

How was your weekend?

When My Man’s Away…

I secretly enjoy it!

Ok, I know…I’ve only been married for a little over 2 months and I’m already enjoying being apart from my
husband?

Yes, I am!

One of the best things about being married is being able to start and finish your days with your best friend. There is no body in this world that
understands me like Ryan does.

He knows my moods and what makes me tick.

Last week we had a little irrigation emergency on the farm. This required Ryan to pack up his bags on Friday afternoon and drive for 7 hours to pick up a replacement part.

This meant that we would be spending the night apart for the first time since we had gotten married and I hate to admit it but….

I was looking forward to it.

I had visions of a nice quiet night at home doing whatever I felt like. Going for a swim, organizing my closet, watching the girliest of girly shows, sleeping in our king size bed alone (GLORIOUS!) and making something I like to eat that I know he doesn’t.

Like this:

cookie in microwave

One thing that my dear husband and I can’t agree on is dessert. The man WILL NOT eat dessert unless it’s Jello.

I on the other hand, LOVE dessert. It brings me such
joy.
We’ve had battles over dessert because I just can’t understand how a human being only eats Jello as a
dessert!
That’s why last Friday when he was away I made DESSERT for SUPPER! And I laughed in the face of all that Jello sitting in my cupboard!

I pinned this microwave cookie recipe a while ago and knew I just had to make it.

Luckily, the ingredients are stuff you pretty much have on hand.

cookie 8

- 1 tbsp. butter, melted
- 1 tbsp. white sugar
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 3 drops of vanilla
- pinch of salt
- 1 egg yolk
- 1/4 cup flour
- 2 tbsp. chocolate chips

The recipe reads:

1. In a bowl mix your melted butter, sugars and vanilla and egg yolk.

cookie 7
2. Add in flour and salt. Mix until combined.

cookie 6

3. Add in chocolate chips.

4. Place dough into a small microwave bowl, ramekin, or cup.

Lindsay step: Good what a ramekin is and realize
you have one of those!

5. Microwave for 40-60 seconds or until the cookie looks done.

cookie 2
cookie 3

Holy simple supper dessert. After I was done microwaving I grabbed a big glass of milk, sat down with a little Say Yes To The Dress and dug in!

cookie 4

Yup, it’s pretty much as amazing as it looks! Pinterest success!

cookie 5

It really was the cherry on top of my perfect alone time evening!

Happy Friday!

Wedding Rehearsal

Happy Wednesday everyone! I’m happy to say that your prayers worked and yesterday we did get some rain! It was like pennies from heaven. The heat is so bad around these parts that our house is sweltering so we’ve been hibernating in our cool basement. It’s kind of like camping out in our own home.

As my brother was taking some company pictures with his camera yesterday, he discovered some long lost rehearsal pictures! I couldn’t let a post past without creating some memory of this fun night.

Being that our wedding was on Saturday, we wanted to rehearsal to be the week of but not the day before. Knowing that we had possession of the hall on Thursday I thought Wednesday would be one of the quietest days to have it. Not to mention it worked out perfectly with both ministers.

Everyone gathered at our family church for the rehearsal on Wednesday, May 9th at 6 PM.

After all the introductions it was time to get the show started. There was a bit of confusion as far as getting started, organizing music timing and how the ceremony was to take place.

 IMG_9015

After all the details were worked out it was REALLY time to try out walking down the aisle.

 IMG_9019

Faith just kept saying “I so excited!”

 IMG_9029

When it was mine and dad’s time I started to get butterflies. It felt a little real at that point.

IMG_9033

We ran through the ceremony which was a breeze! My wonderful student minister, Nancy had everything all ready to practice.

 IMG_9045

We also practiced signing the registries.

IMG_9050

Then, we did it all over again. Well, not the ceremony part but the entrance was a little shaky and confusing still so a second time was needed.

After the rehearsal everyone headed to my parent’s house for a casual evening with included drinks, BBQ supper and presenting everyone with their gifts.

The rehearsal was really one aspect of the wedding that I never really stressed or obsessed about planning. My idea was to run it through and then have a casual get together. Exactly what happened.

What I didn’t expect was how I would feel during the rehearsal. I felt a tab bit stressed (during unorganized moments) and full of butterflies.

IMG_9051

I kind of secretly worried that practicing through the ceremony would take away some of the romance of the day.

In reality, it’s not the case at all. Although you do the same thing all over again on your wedding day it is a completely different feeling. The rehearsal is there so that there is no stress on the wedding day and you know what to expect!

Happy Wednesday!

Why Yes, I Think I Will Relax This Weekend

Happy Monday everyone! Another weekend flew by. And unfortunately, all these promises of rain from last night and not even a drop! What the heck! I don’t usually ask for prayers on this little blog but this farming community is desperate for some drought relief!

You know those weekends that are so jammed packed with stuff to do that you need a whole other day to recuperate? This wasn’t one of them!

For once, this summery weekend was filled with more relaxation then activity. And, it was glorious!

I hate to sound lazy but after a super stressful week at work I needed some down time. Some me time!

Unfortunately, we had to shut out irrigation off on Thursday. This little sod farm has been without water now for almost 4 days. The river is too low and our pipes were just sucking up sand. Thankfully, we could get a new part but had to drive to Delhi, Ontario (close to London) to get it! Yikes!

My husband and another employee from the farm (and our friend and wedding M.C) Pat, volunteered to do take time out of their weekend to go get it. They left Friday morning.

What did that mean for me? A Friday, with nothing to do and the house to myself. Yipee!

I love my husband but the alone time was awesome! It was so peaceful! I made this for supper:

Deep River 7

And then proceeded to organize my closet (yes, organizing relaxes me!), watch mindless television and fall asleep at 8:30 PM. Wild Friday night! :-)

It was just what the doctor ordered.

Saturday morning I woke up rested and ready to start the day. I was up and driving to the grocery store so early I figured I should document it.

Deep River 6

By mid-morning I was back home, groceries put away and pantry organized. With nothing more to do I did one of my most favorite things, NAPPED!

I had gotten a text from Ryan saying that he would be home around 6. So, I went ahead and made myself an early supper. I may or may not have napped through lunch! Woops!

It was nice to have Ryan home. But there was no resting for him! Immediately, we got ready and headed to Norway Bay, Quebec to visit with friends and then head over to a stag for friends Shawn and Vee! It was a great party and a great time catching up with friends!

I still giggle at the thoughts of Sunday morning. If you have ever seen the Tostitos commercial you’ll get it. The conversation went like this:

Lindsay rolls over and checks the clock. She jumps up and says,

Lindsay: Ryan, it’s 9:30!!!!!

Ryan: No, way! No, way!!! Let me see the time!

Ryan takes Lindsay’s phone and stares at the time.

Ryan & Lindsay: WE SLEPT IN!!!!! OMG! WE SLEPT IN!!!

I still can’t believe that we slept in that late. I honestly can’t remember the last time I had just a long and undisturbed sleep.

Being that we were so rested and they were calling for a raining day (HA!), we deiced to hit the road for a road tour!

First stop was the car wash. Ryan insisted we couldn’t have a road tour in a dirty car!

Deep River 5

Then the next stop was Deep River where we stopped at the Bears Den for lunch. The food was so good and it was so fun to try a new spot! I had the coconut chicken curry soup and perogies! Yum!

Deep River 4

After a quick stop at the Canadian Tire, we headed to the Laurentian Dairy. A GIANT ice cream parlor/restaurant with every kind of ice cream flavor you can think of!

Deep River 3

We grabbed our favorites. One scoop of cheery cheesecake and one scoop of cookie dough for me. Tiger tail for Ryan.

Deep River 2

Ryan drove us down to the Deep River marina where we sat on their newly build historic boardwalk. We enjoyed the view, ate our ice cream and talked about how perfect this boardwalk would be in our small town!

Deep River 1

The 2 hour drive home went by in a blink since we were both high on sugar and couldn’t stop being silly.

Unfortunately, this wonderful weekend had to come to an end. This morning I feel so rejuvenated and rested. It was so nice having a little quiet alone time and then getting to go on an impromptu road tour! Perfect weekend!

How was your weekend?

House Tour – The Master Bedroom

Happy Friday everyone! Although I don’t have as many activities planned for the weekend, I am still looking forward to a little down time.

I don’t know if it’s because I’ve gotten married or that now I have been organizing all of our wedding presents in the house but seriously, I have a BAD case of nesting!

Lately, I’ve been dreaming about putting in and decorating a spare bedroom, finishing the laundry room, and re-doing the sunroom! I have a serious itch and I want to get my little nest all homey and finished.

I told Ryan this the other day and he told me to get over it. But I’m having such a hard time! I’m dying to decorate or renovate something!

So, to prove to my husband that I’m giving it the ol’ college try of “getting over it”, I thought I would share with you a complete house project of the past, the master bedroom.

The master bedroom is most definitely the biggest room in the house. When my parents put the addition on the house they most definitely made sure to make themselves a nice big room! For that, I am sooo thankful!

The walk in closet was the first thing that I wanted to complete as a new home owner. The second thing, the master bedroom!

I have some fond memories of being a kid and running and playing in my parents nice big room! Thank you Mom and Dad for having such a big master bedroom but I curse you for the bird basket wall paper!

Copy of master bedroom 2

Yes, bird basket wallpaper! How is that EVER in style!?!?!

It took over 2 days just to remove the wallpaper. Any one who knows my grandpa Hamilton and now my dad knows that these men put things up once. With the intention of it NEVER coming down! Yikes! Luckily, when it was down and furniture was removed, it was like a blank canvas.

master bedroom 4

With all the wallpaper removed, it was time to strip the carpet and put in the hard wood floors the same as the rest of the house.

I painted all the natural wood trim (yuck!) and doors white. The walls were painted “wheat field”. I made my second biggest and first furniture purchase ever…my bedroom set! I felt like such a grown up! My very own king size bed, side tables and dressers!

Master bedroom 004

The rest of the decorations have been just trickling in slowly over the last 3 years and although the room still doesn’t feel finished, it’s getting there.

Here are the before and after pictures.

Master bedroom 009

It honestly felt like a HUGE accomplishment to be able to redo my parents master bedroom as my own. Although it doesn’t feel finished yet, it still feels like my little retreat. Where I go to kick back after a long day to read, relax or watch t.v. Not to mention my sleeping spot and where I lay when I’m sick. Such a multipurpose room!

Hope you have a fantastic weekend!
