Dare #3

So I'm a little late getting this dare out there but I think everyone can manage to get this one done.

Dare #3

Talk to someone who you have lost touch with over the years. This can be through e-mail, phone or in person, you choose. Let me know how it goes! :-)

Last week I was super excited to watch an old movie but had trouble finding time because I worked both Friday night and then Saturday night. Luckily, I woke up at around 10:30 on Saturday morning turned on the T.V while I was having breakfast and saw that "Dirty Dancing" was playing! I was so excited knowing that is was the one I wanted to watch with the recent passing of dear handsome Johnny (aka Patrick Swayze). I did not move from my couch from the start of the movie to the finish! I cried, I laughed and even took Tucker in my arms and danced around the living room to "I've had the time of my life." It was a great Saturday morning!

Let me introduce you to....

Tucker!
This is Tucker, The Tuckinator, Beans, or as Ryan calls him, "Dude". He is a 2 and half year old, 5 pound chihuahua that makes my worst days better.

Over 2 years ago I was living in British Colombia and was feeling the sting of homesickness and thought that getting a puppy was going to make that a little bit better. The backyard of the place where I was living was pretty small so I didn't want to get a big dog that couldn't run around. Really, in the back of my head I wanted a big dog because that's all I've ever owned on the farm. Because of the circumstances and with lots of searching I decided that a Chihuahua would be best fitted for me.

I searched and searched for a place that was selling puppies for a reasonable price. I knew in advance that I was looking for a boy and I wanted him to be beige coloring.

Luckily it didn't take long and I saw this picture:
Tucker's baby picture

I went to go visit him to see first if he warmed up to me. The lady that I was buying him from kept putting these two girls who were already about 2 pounds heavier than him in front of me. But he was the runt of the litter and would be small when he grew up so I knew already that I wanted him. Luckily, he cuddled right into my arms and I was instantly in love.

Over two years later I'm still in love with that little chihuahua that I first met. Tucker thinks that he is actually a golden retriever. He loves to play fetch, stands on the back of the couch to make himself feel taller and can do numerous tricks.

I feel so much safer with Tucker while living by myself. He hears things before I do and so when someone is even walking to the door he hears it. I know if he is barking in his cage it's for a reason.

I could be in the worst mood when I get home from work but when I come through that door Tucker always greets me with a wagging tail so excited to see me. He never gets mad at me and never judges me. He is the perfect companion and my best friend.

Dare #2

Welcome back to the work week! Here is your second dare, if you choose to accept it.

Dare #2
Watch an old movie that you haven't seen in a long time. Maybe it will be an old Disney movie you own or one that you use to know all the words to. Let me know how it goes.

So this week I was going to go up to a stranger and say, "Hi, How are you?" I thought this task was going to be relatively easy for me being that I'm pretty out going already. I was never prepared for what actually happened. Thursday I was in the grocery store in Aylmer picking up my weekly groceries. I always carry my cell phone with me to calculate all my groceries up so I don't go over budget. I was walking down the cereal aisle and spotted an elderly couple carrying a big storage Rubbermaid container. I thought, perfect targets for my dare. I walked in their direction with a smile on my face and than the old lady came up to me screaming that she was allergic to cells phones and was telling me to put mine away. I quickly dashed out of the aisle and continued my shopping trip. Just when I was going down the last aisle I spotted the old couple and unfortunately the old lady remembered me and started chasing me to try to get my phone, that she was apparently allergic too. The manager ended up escorting the delusional woman out of the store and I was able to finish my shopping but didn't try to say, "how are you?" to anyone else!

Have a great week!

Welcome to Friday!

Every week I can't wait till this time of the week, Friday! No matter how busy or stressful a Friday is I always have the thought of the weekend in the back of my head to push me through the storm.

I've kind of been dragging my feet all week trying to catch up on sleep from a very active weekend.

The rest of the fair weekend was great! I've come to notice something about myself this weekend that I never realized before; I'm really nosey! I think I would be happy sitting on a bench at the fair just watching the people pass by. I like to see who's there, who their with and how they've changed over the years.
The fair is not at all like it used to be when I was younger. I would spend the whole time walking around talking to old chums in the beer tent. I would go from a group of people to the next spilling my beer on the way. Now I am more than happy standing outside the beer tent with a close group of friends eating a beavertail. The good news is it's not just me that is going through this change. Many friends are having/had babies, buying houses and getting married which accounts for their change in behaviour. I guess it's just a new phase in my life.

The day that I always look forward to most is Monday of the fair because it's the derby day! Most of the out of towner's are gone back home and the locals crowd around the ring and watch cars crash into each other for 4 hours. It's great! This year was especially exciting because we had two friends in the derby; Adam and Kyle.

The guys with their derby cars! Loved the Mountainview colors!

I was so excited seeing their cars drive into the ring to go head to head with 6 other cars. When the cars got going I started to get mad at the other participants hitting the boys. Eventually their cars had enough crashing and quit. First Kyle was out at the far end and Adam right in the middle of the action getting continuously hit even with his white flag out the window.

When I try to describe my feelings for the fair to "city" friends they just don't understand the excitement I feel. They think it's silly and a waste of time to be standing around a dirty area, shivering because of the fall dampness. To me however I couldn't love it more. Country music, great food and chatting with new and old friends! What else could a small town girl ask for?

Entry #1....Just the beginning

Ryan and I on our way to the fair!

I'm very new to the whole blogging world and I'm not to sure how this is going to go but I'm looking forward to sharing my thoughts and typing them all out even if it is for my benefit only.

Last night was the first night of the local fair. I have been counting down the hours until it arrived and I was not disappointed when I got there. I always love stepping back and paying attentions to the sounds and the smells that surround me. Screaming kids on rides, grease for the beaver tails and the damp coolness of fall.

My boyfriend, Ryan, and I were walking around the grounds and were stopped every 10 steps or so with friendly hello's of old and new friends. Ever year it makes me feel so warm to get greeted by so many people. Its a safe, comforting feeling being around people you know and trust. In the back of my paranoid head I know that if something bad was to happen to me that I have so many people to go to for help.

There are two things that I love most of all about the fair;

1. The food
2. Planning on what I'm going to wear

So I may be able to go makeup less and where work boots all day on the farm but when I get a chance to go out I love to "gussy" myself up a bit. It's hard to dress for the fair! It is so hot during the day and than so cold at night so layers are a must.

Last night I wore:
Dark jeans
White T-shirt with brown lace tank underneath
and my new yellow old navy sweater

If I was to say I didn't know what I was wearing the rest of the weekend I would be lying. :-)

The food.....oh the food......Along with planning my outfits I also plan what I'm going to eat. Last night I indulged in a DELICIOUS beaver tail and a slice of pizza. Then Ryan surprised me with fresh squeezed lemonade! Boy, was it good. I know exactly what I'm going to eat tonight......

I can't wait to go back to the fair grounds tonight and see even more people that I have lost touch with over the years, even if it only for one hug. Many of these people I won't see again until we see that big white tent going up again next fall.
