I'm Awkward and I'm A Dork!!

HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY

FRIDAY!!

The weekend is here and I am starting mine off by having a pot luck supper with some of my closest friends!! Not only is this pot luck going to be filled with way too much yummy food but it also going to be in honor of my birthday! Yay!! I am actually getting my first cake for my birthday. That is what sucks about having your birthday land on Thanksgiving, you get a candle in a pie!

A neighbor and family friend, Shirley Young passed away last week. Being from a small community I don't think there was a person from Quyon who didn't know/love Shirley.

Yesterday afternoon was her wake. Jill, Jared (brother) and myself wanted to pay our respects to the family and headed to town.

The Young's/Draper's are a BIG family. We headed inside the funeral home a began giving our condolences to each person in the line.

I always find that I have to stop myself from saying, "How are you" while at a wake since it is a greeting I regularly use.

I was doing so well but when I got to the last person in line this is what happened:

While shaking the hand of Shirley's son.

Me: I'm very sorry for your loss.

Son: I appreciate that. She will be greatly missed.

Me- Nodding

Son: Thank you for coming

Me: No, thank you!

WHAT!?!?!?!?! Who says that?

I literally bolted out of there and instantly hit myself in the forehead.....stupid....stupid...stupid.

Why the heck would I need to thank him? Looking back now I can laugh and be laughed at. But still, why couldn't I be born a graceful and composed?

Hence, I am a super AWKWARD DORK and I'll never change!

Happy Friday everyone! Hope you have a great weekend!

  1. hahaha... I love it! It makes me feel good that I'm not the only one who does stuff like that! Whew! And sorry it has to be you but hey we can be twinkies. We'll start the dork club :)

  2. You're hilarious! I'm awkward at wakes too...I hate the shaking hands thing and offering my condolences, it's just not a nice time in general. You took that like a champ though, darlin! Good stuff!

  3. Ahh, we all get nervous and awkward once in a while ;-) When my neighbor passed away last January, Greg had to remind me to keep my mouth shut a bit at the memorial service (that sounds bad, but it's true, I needed the reminder ;-)) because I often get rambly in nervous situations-- I'm there with ya! Hope you have a great weekend :-)

  4. Well, Linds - I already told you, you're not alone in these situations. I went through the line saying "how are ya?" to each person...realllll nice!
And from the wakes/funerals of my cousins this past summer, we spent a lot of time talking about "foot in mouth" disease - or awkward moments. Luke almost accidentally kissing our cousin Jim, a friend forgetting Troy's dad's name and calling him my dad's name by mistake, me asking my cousin, when presented with the green ribbon for organ donation, "What's this for? Just Jeff?"

    D'OH!!! it happens :)

  5. HAHAHA YOU ARE HILARIOUS - however, I'm not surprised you would say something like that - you CAN be a dork sometimes...hehe, however we all have our moments. I'm the same way except at weddings...i cannot for the life of me say Congratulations...at anything really, someone announces their having a baby and i get all awkward and am more like "aww...wow" more sounding surprised but I cannot say the word CONGRATULATIONS apparently. I remember at Kara's wedding (your sister Jill) and we were at the hall and whoever I was with was talking to her, and I was prepping myself to say CONGRATULATIONS but instead, I got in front of her and said (like a dork)..."aaahhh...i like your dress"....haha! we all have our moments :)

  6. if someone said that to me in that situation i would assume they were thanking me for having such a nice family. i wouldn't worry. it shows you care.

  7. I had to laugh because I'm the worst at blurting out stuff before I think it through...I'm like a loaded cannon!

I also wanted you to know that I feel your pain when it comes to Thanksgiving birthdays. Mine regularly falls on or around the U.S. Thanksgiving, and I've come to realize that turkey and pumpkin pie will forever be a part of my birthday celebrations. The upside is that the whole stinkin' family is in attendance, which means there's more gift potential. ;)
