A Year of Dates – January

Happy Friday everyone! I hope your week has been wonderful! There is nothing that I love more then a Friday! The day has so much promise! Promise of sleeping in, getting stuff done, relaxing and fun activities!

For Christmas this year, Ryan and I collaborated and decided to plan a “Year of Dates” for each other. Basically, we split up the months and each planned a date. So, I had January, he had February, I had March…And so forth.

We each secretly planned a date. The rules were pretty simple. It can be whatever you want! It can vary to a special supper out, movie date at home, visiting something, ANYTHING at all. We tried to get gift cards or tickets to the place we were going if we could. We then each took our coordinating month’s envelopes and sealed off our dates.

On the 1st of every month, we open the envelope together to reveal the secret date! We then HAVE to have this date within the months time.

Yes, I am the Picasso who drew on all the envelopes. I have mad skills! :-)

First up, January. A date I had planned. Knowing it was the first of many I decided to do something a little low key.

Inside the envelope there was a piece of paper with a picture of the Ladysmith Hotel. It then read, “Either on snowmobile or by car, travel here for some delicious wings.”

And that’s just what we did! On Friday, January 25th, we loaded up the car (it was like minus 30, no snowmobile! Brr) and headed for our first date night of the year! We were really excited for a night out, just the two of us.

When we arrived at Ladysmith the place was pretty quiet and we ordered some delicious Caesars.

Ladysmith Hotel is famous for it’s yummy wings but I’ve recently discovered they have deep fried dill pickles on their menu too! I had the pickles as an appetizer and we both enjoyed some amazing wings!

On our way home, we quickly grabbed some groceries and then headed home to settle in for a little dessert and a movie!

We watched “Machine Gun Preacher” on Netflix and enjoyed some chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream.

January’s date was a huge success! I think the best part of the dates is that they are a surprise to one of us every month! It makes us anxious at the beginning of every month to open the envelope to see what the other has planned! It’s also nice having gift cards or tickets because then you have no other choice but to go on the date. No excuses.

I look forward to sharing with you what the date in February is!

Happy Friday!
