Gearing Up For Christmas

Happy Friday everyone! It’s the last weekend before Christmas and all I keep thinking is “Really”?

I knew it was coming. I expected it all month long but for some reason with the day that Christmas lands on this year it has crept up on me. I kind of want the holiday season to slow down. I want to enjoy, embrace and remember it. However, when it’s speeding by at a million miles an hour I hardly get time to blink and another day has passed.

I don’t know about all of you but this year was a synch for me and I give all the credit to my handy dandy list!

This list I made at the beginning of December. I wrote down all the names of the people that Ryan and I get gifts for and then pick out what we want to get them. For a while some names stayed blank as we couldn’t think of what to get them. As things were purchased they got ticked off or added to the  list. This way I was able to keep track of the dollar amount as well as the actual present.

The house is all “Christmasified” and how lovely that feels. I’m almost a little sad thinking already of how empty my doorways will look without any pretty garland or lights.

Yesterday, after Zumba, I went for THE grocery trip. You know the one you have to make to get all of the food, snacks, and supplies that you will need before and during the Christmas holidays! The cart was overflowing with good food when all the sudden a Valumart employee came up to me and told me to grab my purse. They said that their was a fire and everyone had to leave the store. I thought, really? Is it that bad?

Well, when I headed out side flames were shooting out of the dumpster that is right beside the store. There were two fire trucks on scene already. After about 30 minutes I was starting to get a little chilly so I began looking through my purse to find my cars keys to go and get my coat.

No keys.

I had stuffed my kegs into one of my grocery bags…the grocery bags that were still in my cart, in the store!

After a while the fire was out and we were all allowed back in store. They let me take the food I had already had through the checkout luckily! It was definitely the most adventurous grocery trip of my life. And now we have most of our Christmas food but those snacks will have to wait in the cupboards till next week.

What better way to get into the Christmas spirit then getting tickets to see this guy?

As some of you might know it is a tradition in our family to listen to Wayne Rodstad’s, Christmas In The Valley cassette tape while decorating the Christmas tree. The tradition has continued on but when I heard about a month ago that Wayne would be performing in Ottawa I impulsively bought tickets.

I would be lying if I said that a tear hadn’t been brought to my eye when I heard my favorite “Christmas In The Valley” song live!

Ok…You can stop laughing at me now.

Wayne Rodstad’s songs have been a staple in our home growing up and I felt so happy to watch him and special guests perform including our hometown’s star, Gail Gavin. Ryan rolls his eyes when I talk about how great the concert was but once in a while I would look over and see him singing.

He would deny that but guess what? I have proof.

Check out that video of Wayne and Friends singing Christmas In The Family as a finale and if you listen carefully you will hear Ryan singing to the words as well. He loves Wayne too.

It really was a great concert and it really put me in the mood for Christmas. So much to look forward to over the next week!

Happy Friday!
